Mersin University Hospital offers a comprehensive Health Tourism Program, combining specialized medical care with the opportunity to experience Turkey’s rich cultural heritage.
The Turkish healthcare system is robust, focusing on improving the experience of care, population health, and reducing costs. It provides comprehensive medical services through a structure composed of primary, secondary, and tertiary care levels. The system includes public hospitals operated by the Ministry of Health, private hospitals, and university hospitals. Significant reforms, including the Health Transformation Program launched in 2003, have improved access to healthcare and enhanced infrastructure across the country, including urban and rural areas. City hospitals, equipped with modern technology and large staff, play a crucial role in increasing the system’s capacity, particularly during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic.
Turkey places strong emphasis on medical education and research, producing skilled healthcare professionals through its reputable medical schools and universities. Regulatory bodies ensure high standards of education, accreditation, and training, while institutions undergo rigorous certification processes to maintain quality. Additionally, Turkey has become a prominent destination for medical tourism, attracting international patients for various medical procedures. The country's healthcare quality is maintained through Health Quality Standards, and international health tourism activities are regulated by the Ministry of Health to ensure seamless services for foreign patients.
Since 2010, Health Tourism has become a rising sector worldwide. Along with this increase, Turkey has emerged as one of the leading countries in the field of Health Tourism.
Patients from countries such as Russia, Germany, Libya, England, and Sweden frequently visit our hospital. The goal is to provide the best possible treatment for Tourist Patients. Additionally, it is aimed to contribute to Cultural Tourism by organizing cultural tours for these patients.
People who live abroad and contact our Health Tourism Unit are greeted at the airport. The hospital provides a shuttle service and a translator to ensure they reach their accommodation as quickly as possible. (The journey between Çukurova International Airport and Mersin takes approximately 1 hour.)
International patients are offered accommodation options. Depending on their preference, the Health Tourism Unit can arrange accommodation either at Mersin University Guesthouse or other hotels. Services are provided to accommodate the religious and cultural sensitivities of the patients staying at the guesthouse or hotels (such as worship facilities and food preferences).
After settling into the hotel or Mersin University Guesthouse, patients’ identification information is collected, and their appointments are arranged with the relevant departments. Once the appointment is confirmed, patients are transported to the hospital by shuttle for consultations with the assigned doctors.
Scheduled for surgery following the examination, private rooms are allocated. Hospital staff assist patients while being mindful of their religious and cultural sensitivities. Patients are provided with three meals a day, and their essential needs are met either from within or outside the hospital.
For patients cleared for discharge by the doctor, a discharge summary (Epicrisis) is prepared. This summary includes the follow-up appointment date, diagnosis, reason for admission, findings, treatments and tests performed, prescribed medications, diet plan, and the hospital's contact details. If requested by the patient, all medical records of the treatment process are handed over.
During the patient’s stay, any valuable or non-valuable items that were entrusted to the hospital are returned in full by the designated staff. Once treatment is completed, the patient settles the payment at the hospital cashier and is discharged.
Once the patient’s treatment and Mersin cultural tour are completed, they are safely transported from their accommodation to Çukurova International Airport for their return journey.
